OK-WISE

Branding & Identity | Event & Experiential Design | Social Strategy & Design

The Oklahoma Women in STEM and Entrepreneurship (OK-WISE) Conference is an effort by the Oklahoma Catalyst Programs at the University of Oklahoma to highlight the scientific, economic, and societal impacts being made by women in Oklahoma. Traditionally, women have not been recognized for their significance in STEM fields and the OK- WISE Conference seeks to remedy this underrepresentation by providing a platform to amplify the voices of women in integral and leadership roles in such industries. Our challenge was to reflect and honor that impact in the brand and visual identity.

Solution

We created an inclusive brand that pairs femme aesthetics with established tech imagery, in order to appeal to a predominately female target audience without isolating them as the “women’s version” of a male-dominated industry. We intentionally selected brand fonts, color palette, and imagery that communicate the nature of the industry while highlighting the diversity of STEM and entrepreneurship fields.

“When we considered partners for OK-WISE, we wanted to work with people, businesses and organizations that aligned with our mission and purpose behind the conference. Given that OK-WISE was focused on promoting and empowering women to start and grow small businesses, we wanted to partner with a design firm that was owned and run by women. Beyond that, your design talent and professionalism was apparent when we looked into your website and your services.”

 Outcomes

“As an attendee of the OK-WISE Conference, I immediately felt a part of a community I belonged to. This initial reaction came before any speaker stepped onto the stage or a breakout session began. A huge part of that belonging came from the look and feel of the conference; the brand itself exuded this feeling of femininity, intelligence, and strength.”
